Lane Thomas Returns to Injured List with Plantar Fasciitis

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas has been placed back on the 10-day injured list due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

This decision, retroactive to Saturday, came after Thomas left the home game against the Tigers on Friday and did not participate in the following day’s match due to the injury.

The Guardians have suffered nine consecutive defeats.

In a corresponding move, the Guardians called up infielder Will Wilson from Triple-A Columbus. Wilson, who will turn 27 on July 21, batted .176 (9-for-51) in 24 games after making his Major League debut in April. In Columbus, he hit .308 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs in 36 games.

Thomas, 29, was also on the injured list for the same ailment from May 30 to June 9. In April, he entered the list due to a contusion on his right wrist, an injury he suffered when hit by a pitch from Shane Smith in the fifth inning of the Guardians’ home opener against the Chicago White Sox.

In the current season, Thomas has a batting average of .160 (20 for 125) with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 39 games.

In his career, Thomas has a .242 average with 76 home runs and 254 RBIs in 600 regular season games, playing for the St. Louis Cardinals (2019-21), Washington Nationals (2021-24) and Guardians.

In 10 postseason games with Cleveland in 2024, Thomas hit two home runs and drove in nine runs, batting .222 (8 for 36).
