In a move that eases pre-arbitration tension, Brusdar Graterol, Braxton Garrett, and Hayden Wesneski have reached one-year contract agreements, thus avoiding the salary arbitration process. This news reduces the list of players who will have to exchange salary proposals with their teams on Thursday, led by Tarik Skubal and Randy Arozarena. Graterol, pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, agreed to a $2.8 million contract. Garrett, for his part, signed with Miami for $1.53 million, while Wesneski did the same with Houston for $975,000. The three pitchers are recovering from significant injuries.

Details of the Agreements

Brusdar Graterol, the 27-year-old right-hander, will receive the same salary as the previous year, after missing the season due to surgery in November 2024 to repair a tear in the labrum of his throwing shoulder. Since the beginning of 2024, he has only participated in seven games. In his career, Graterol has an 11-9 record with a 2.78 ERA and 11 saves. Braxton Garrett, a 28-year-old left-hander, will also receive the same salary as in 2025. He missed last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in December 2024. His record is 16-19 and he has an ERA of 4.03 in five seasons with the Marlins. Hayden Wesneski, a 28-year-old right-hander, was arbitration-eligible for the first time after posting a 1-3 record with a 4.50 ERA in six starts. He underwent Tommy John surgery in May. Tarik Skubal, Detroit’s left-handed pitcher, and Randy Arozarena, Seattle’s outfielder, are eligible for arbitration for the last time and are on their way to becoming free agents after the 2026 World Series. Other players in the arbitration group include New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., Milwaukee catcher William Contreras, Seattle right-hander Logan Gilbert, Philadelphia left-hander Jesús Luzardo, Cincinnati right-hander Brady Singer, Toronto outfielder Daulton Varsho, and Baltimore outfielder Taylor Ward. It is expected that more than 100 players will reach agreements on Thursday. The hearings for players who do not reach agreements will be scheduled from January 26 to February 13 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
