Gleyber Torres Leaves Game After Neck Impact

The Detroit Tigers’ star second baseman, Gleyber Torres, left Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians in the first inning. This happened after he was hit in the neck while sliding into second base.

Torres received an elbow to the neck and felt a little unwell. In the third or fourth inning, the medical staff informed me that everything was fine. He was just a little scared because it was a strange collision.

A.J. Hinch, Tigers Manager
Manager A.J. Hinch stated after the 1-0 victory against the Guardians that Torres could be available for Sunday’s game. Torres reached base after receiving a walk with one out. On a ground ball by Riley Greene, Cleveland’s second baseman, Johnathan Rodriguez, took the ball out of his glove towards Brayan Rocchio. However, the shortstop moved off the base and Torres slid, being hit by Rocchio’s glove and elbow. Torres remained on the ground and was examined by the trainers for a few minutes before leaving the game. Javier Báez moved from shortstop to second base, while Trey Sweeney came in to play shortstop. Torres is batting .279 and has an 18-game on-base streak. He was one of three Detroit players voted as American League starters for the July 15 All-Star Game in Atlanta, along with outfielders Riley Greene and Báez.
