Luis Gil continues his rehabilitation with ups and downs in Triple-A
The New York Yankees’ right-handed pitcher, Luis Gil, continues his rehabilitation process following an injury in spring training. In his most recent outing with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team, Gil had a mixed performance. In Wednesday’s game against Rochester, the starter allowed four hits and five runs in 3.1 innings. Nationals minor league outfielder Robert Hassell III hit a home run to the first batter Gil faced. During his performance, Gil conceded three walks and struck out four batters, throwing a total of 67 pitches, of which 44 were strikes. Gil injured his latissimus dorsi muscle in spring training and has yet to debut in the Major Leagues this season. Last season, the American League Rookie of the Year candidate posted a 15-7 record with a 3.50 ERA, accumulating 171 strikeouts in 151.2 innings. Before this Triple-A outing, Gil made two rehab starts in Double-A Somerset, one on July 13 and another on July 18. There is a possibility that his next start will be in the majors. He’s definitely getting there. It’s been a good preparation for him. We’ll get through this and see where we are.
