Landen Roupp to the Injured List with Knee Inflammation

San Francisco Giants pitcher Landen Roupp was placed on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his left knee. The news was confirmed this Friday, following the incident in his last start where he was hit by a batted ball. The hit occurred during the third inning of the game against the San Diego Padres, when a hit by Ramón Laureano impacted Roupp. Although the impact initially appeared to be on the right leg, the player suffered a left knee injury when reacting to the play.

Based on what we were seeing, we were holding our breath. At least until now, it’s good news. It’s just a bone bruise, but it’s a pretty strong bruise. It’s not like he’s going to be back in a day or two.

Bob Melvin, Giants Manager
Giants manager Bob Melvin reported that Roupp will seek more medical opinions, but for the moment it doesn’t seem like he requires surgery. Roupp, 26, has a 7-7 record with a 3.80 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 106⅔ innings this season. To fill their roster spot, the Giants called up left-handed pitcher Carson Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento. Whisenhunt, 24, has a 1-1 record with an ERA of 5.02 in three starts with San Francisco and a 9-5 record with an ERA of 4.37 in 19 starts with Sacramento.
