Red Sox in Crisis: Alex Cora’s Words After Another Defeat

Red Sox manager Alex Cora had recently expressed his confidence that the team was close to regaining its best level, but the reality on the field seems to contradict those words.

The Boston team’s latest defeat has intensified the doubts, adding a new setback to their already complicated season.

On Tuesday, the Red Sox suffered their seventeenth one-run loss, falling 4-3 to the Los Angeles Angels in a game that extended to ten innings. The match was marked by missed opportunities, defensive errors, and an inconsistent bullpen performance. This loss represents the eighth in the last ten games, leaving the team with a series record of 9-10-1, including 4-5-1 at Fenway Park.

“We keep making the same mistakes. We are not improving,” Cora commented after the game.

After the game, Cora didn’t hesitate to express his frustration: “We keep making the same mistakes. We are not improving. At some point, I guess the responsibility is mine. I’m the manager. I have to keep pushing them to get better. They are not improving. They are not. We keep making the same mistakes. I’ll be honest about it and very open.”

Tuesday’s loss came after Boston also lost by one run to the Angels, a team that had lost seven of eight games and three straight series.

The game began with promises. Brayan Bello, the starting pitcher, managed to keep the scoreboard at zero during the first inning, breaking a streak of four games in which Boston’s starters had allowed at least one run in the first inning.

However, the Angels took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, thanks to a single by Zach Neto that drove in a run and a two-run single by Nolan Schanuel.

Boston managed to score a run in the bottom of the inning, but couldn’t get any closer on the scoreboard, despite having runners on second and third base with no outs.

Despite out-hitting the Angels for the second consecutive game, the Red Sox committed three defensive errors.

“You get frustrated, but at some point, what are you going to do? What’s going to change? We keep doing the same thing,” Cora lamented.
