David Forst Secures His Continued Role as Athletics General Manager

Athletics general manager David Forst has been re-signed to a new contract for next season. Forst will continue to lead the team in its transition in the California capital region, while the planned relocation to Las Vegas in 2028 is awaited.

I’ll be back in 2026.

The A’s finished the season with a 76-86 record, playing their first year in West Sacramento, California. They achieved seven more victories than in 2024, when they finished with 69-93 in their last season in Oakland.

We had a lot of success to be very proud of in 2025.

Forst, 49, has been general manager since 2015 and has been with the A’s organization since 2000. He has overseen much of the transition from a low-budget franchise looking to build with long-term contracts before the move to Las Vegas. Forst has maintained regular conversations with the ownership about the continuation of the “assure the players” model.

We feel really good about the foundation.

Last year, fans expressed their anger and sadness, with poor attendance at games and even reverse boycotts. Thousands of people went to the team’s former home, the Oakland Coliseum. Chants of “Sell the team!” were common, as fans urged owner John Fisher to sell instead of relocating the team to West Sacramento for three seasons, while a new stadium is built in Las Vegas. Forst, a 1998 Harvard graduate, was Billy Beane’s right-hand man during the A’s “Moneyball” analytical movement, which had an impact on other teams.

I’m as optimistic about this team, this organization, this system, and the talent in the system as I’ve been in a long time.
