Former Red Sox pitcher Austin Maddox sentenced to prison

Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Austin Maddox has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to a raid for sexual offenses involving minors. Maddox, 34, pleaded guilty on Thursday to meeting a minor to commit illicit acts and the illegal use of a two-way communication device. As part of a plea agreement, Florida prosecutors dropped a charge of soliciting a minor via computer. Maddox will receive credit for the 501 days he has already served in prison. Judge Lindsay Tygart also sentenced him to five years of probation as a sex offender after his release. He faced a sentence of up to five years in prison. Maddox was one of 27 people arrested as part of a multi-agency operation in April 2024. They were accused of soliciting sex online from people they believed were minors, according to authorities. Maddox agreed to meet with the minor at a pre-arranged location, where he was arrested by law enforcement officers. Maddox played college baseball at the University of Florida and was drafted by the Red Sox in 2012. He played one season for the Red Sox in 2017, his only season in the majors, appearing in 13 games. Maddox was on probation as a drug offender at the time of his arrest. He was arrested in November 2022 in Baker County.
