In an exciting display of speed and determination, Jarren Duran led the Red Sox to victory with an inside-the-park home run this Sunday. The three-run hit not only gave Boston the lead in the fifth inning, but also secured a crucial 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park. With Carlos Narváez on third and Alex Bregman on first, Duran hit the first pitch from starter Mitch Keller towards right-center field. The ball, after passing right fielder Alexander Canario, rolled towards the Fenway triangle and then bounced off the side wall of the Boston bullpen, momentarily escaping the reach of center fielder Oneil Cruz. The fans roared as Duran, known for his speed, ran around third base and easily beat the relief throw to reach home plate without sliding.
This was the second inside-the-park home run by the Red Sox at Fenway Park this season, following Wilyer Abreu’s on June 30. Duran commented that he was happy he didn’t have to slide. The inside-the-park home run was Duran’s first of his career. When I was starting to round second, I thought, ‘Okay, I have to make sure I get to third.’ I thought I was going to be standing [at third]. I found myself leaning back a little bit, so [third base coach Kyle Hudson] came towards me signaling and I said, ‘I have to get going again.’

Everyone does the same thing in the dugout. We become fans. Everyone makes noise, everyone cheers him on.
