Dream Debut in Chicago: Tim Elko Jumps onto the Diamond and the White Sox Bolster Their Pitching

CHICAGO – The [Chicago White Sox](/mlb/team/_/name/chw/chicago-white-sox) have announced the addition of infielder Tim Elko to the main team from their Triple-A affiliate Charlotte. Elko’s debut in the Major Leagues came on Saturday night against the [Miami Marlins](/mlb/team/_/name/mia/miami-marlins), where he was lined up at first base.

The 26-year-old player, Elko, was placed in the eighth position of the lineup. During his time in Charlotte, Elko demonstrated his offensive ability by batting .348 with 10 home runs and 23 RBIs in 31 games. The player was selected by the White Sox in the tenth round of the 2022 amateur draft, after leading Ole Miss to the conquest of the NCAA title.

Simultaneously, the White Sox designated infielder Nick Maton for assignment.

In addition, Chicago claimed right-handed pitcher Yoendrys Gómez, coming from the [Los Angeles Dodgers](/mlb/team/_/name/lad/los-angeles-dodgers), and released outfielder Greg Jones.

Gómez has a combined record of 1-1 with an ERA of 6.28, one save, and 11 strikeouts in nine relief appearances between the Yankees and the Dodgers this season. He was designated for assignment by Los Angeles on May 6, after being claimed off waivers from New York.

Chicago, which is in last place in the American League with an 11-28 record, managed to break a four-game losing streak on Friday, beating Miami with a score of 6-2.
