Dodgers Merchandise Reaches Million-Dollar Figures at Auction
A quartet of Los Angeles Dodgers-related items fetched nearly $900,000 at an auction held by SCP Auctions in California over the weekend. Among the featured items are the home run balls that tied and won Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, caught by the father-son duo John and Matthew Bains.
The home run ball that tied game 7, hit by Miguel Rojas, sold for $156,000, while the game-winning home run ball in game 7, hit by Will Smith, reached $168,000. Both prices include the buyer’s premium.
In addition, the home run ball from Shohei Ohtani in Game 4 of the 2025 National League Championship Series, which left Dodger Stadium, sold for $270,000, also including the premium.
In the same auction, a bat used by Ohtani during his 50/50 MVP season in 2024, with photographic matching of five home runs in a span of 12 games between late August and early September, according to PSA Photo Match, sold for $300,000, including the premium.
After years of being underestimated in the collectibles world, Ohtani is finally experiencing his moment. The first sale of an Ohtani card for a million dollars occurred in March, when a collector paid $1.067 million for a one-of-one, autographed card on the card and with the MLB logo, from Ohtani’s pants worn while hitting his 49th, 50th, and 51st home runs of the 2024 season. A collector paid $542,900 for another one-of-one numbered and signed Ohtani card earlier this month.
The property of Ohtani’s 50/50 home run ball, which Taiwanese investment firm UC Capital turned into the most expensive baseball of all time with a value of $4.39 million last October, is still in litigation, including a name correction for one of the original claimants, in the 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, with a hearing scheduled for January 13.
