Dodgers Come Close to No-Hitter, But Secure the Victory
The Los Angeles Dodgers were on the verge of achieving a no-hitter for the second time in three games. The team, which is looking to consolidate its position at the top of the division, once again demonstrated its ability to compete at the highest level.Tyler Glasnow and Blake Treinen held the Colorado Rockies hitless for eight innings in Monday night’s game. The pitching combination dominated the opposing offense, keeping the hope of a historic achievement alive. The no-hitter dream vanished when Ryan Ritter hit a double to left field at the start of the ninth inning against Tanner Scott. Despite this hit, the Dodgers reacted and secured the victory with a score of 3-1.Glasnow had an outstanding performance, striking out 11 batters and conceding two walks in 105 pitches, of which 65 were strikes. The pitcher showed absolute dominance on the mound, keeping the Rockies’ offense at bay for seven innings. It would have been nice, but it doesn’t matter.
Tyler Glasnow
Treinen relieved Glasnow in the eighth inning, retiring the batters in order. Glasnow (2-3) earned his first win since March 31 against Atlanta, adding ten no-decisions in his fifteen starts. Scott earned his 21st save, retiring the last three batters after Ritter’s hit. In Saturday’s game, Yoshinobu Yamamoto also came close to a no-hitter, but the attempt was broken in the ninth inning. The Orioles rallied to win 4-3. The Dodgers took a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning thanks to a two-run single by Mookie Betts that drove in Andy Pages and Shohei Ohtani. It was fantastic all night.
Dave Roberts
Glasnow allowed a run in the second inning with a sacrifice fly from Kyle Farmer that drove in Jordan Beck. The Dodgers tied it 1-1 with a double by Freddie Freeman in the sixth inning. Glasnow had missed his previous start due to back discomfort, but tests revealed no issues. “I felt really good,” the pitcher stated. Glasnow was an All-Star for the first time in 2024, his first season with the Dodgers. He finished with a 9-6 record and a 3.49 ERA, but did not pitch after August 11 due to a strained elbow that prematurely ended his season. The offense has to do its part. Today we were good, but we have to improve a lot.
