Mookie Betts Shows Signs of Recovery After Foot Injury
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts has taken a significant step in his recovery. This Sunday, Betts was able to wear shoes and move around for the first time since injuring his left foot earlier in the week. Betts, who missed the weekend series against the New York Yankees due to a fracture in the fourth toe of his left foot, participated in throwing and light defensive work before the final game of the series at Dodger Stadium. The expectation is that Betts will return to the Dodgers’ lineup in the coming days, thus avoiding a stint on the injured list.
I would love to be there to help my teammates play, but I am in the mindset of acceptance. I can’t do anything about it now; just accept where I am, watch my teammates play. They are playing very well, so I will just enjoy my seat until it’s my turn.

So far this season, Betts has had to deal with two unusual physical problems. First, a stomach illness caused him to lose almost 20 pounds and kept him out of the team’s opening series in Japan in mid-March.
Two months later, the Dodgers’ gardener-turned-shortstop recounted that he hit his toe against a wall in his house while walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night, after the team returned from a six-game away series on Wednesday. X-rays revealed the fracture.
Despite this, Betts has proven to be a more than capable Major League shortstop, although his offensive numbers have slightly decreased. In 53 games, Betts has a batting average of .254/.338/.405, with eight home runs and five stolen bases. His OPS of .742 is 55 points lower than his career average before this season.
Betts rejected the idea that the position change has affected his offense, recalling that last year, when he played shortstop, he batted .308/.407/.500.
