Diamondbacks Secure Their Future at Chase Field with Multi-Million Dollar Renovations

Phoenix – The Arizona Diamondbacks secured their stay at Chase Field for the next three decades. Governor Katie Hobbs signed a law allocating 500 million dollars for renovations to the stadium. The signing of House Bill 2704 took place in the team dugout, as the players prepared for Wednesday’s game against the Texas Rangers. Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall and bill sponsor Representative Jeff Weninger accompanied Hobbs at the ceremony.

“Through all the unforgettable moments and history made here, Chase Field has largely remained unchanged, not undergoing a major renovation,” Hobbs told reporters near the dugout. “The fans have continuously supported this city, this state, and it’s time for us to support them.”

The law will recover sales taxes from the stadium and other adjacent buildings over the next 30 years, reinvesting them in the infrastructure of the retractable-roof structure, home to the Diamondbacks since they joined MLB as an expansion franchise in 1998. Chase Field is owned by the Maricopa County Stadium District. The Arizona House of Representatives approved the bill in June.

“We’ve been looking for a solution for over seven years, a long-term solution here for Chase Field to find a way to finance all the necessary renovations and maintenance, and we’ve now achieved it,” Hall said. “It was a way to bring that steady flow, along with our money, the team’s money. We have already invested over $200 million in this facility. We are committed to investing at least another $250 million.”

Hall has mentioned that the stadium needs several improvements, especially in its air conditioning system, crucial during the hot summer months in Phoenix. The current equipment lease with the county expires in 2027.
