Guardians prospect Chase DeLauter undergoes surgery

Gardener Chase DeLauter, considered one of the most promising prospects in the Cleveland Guardians organization, underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair a fracture in the hook bone of his right wrist. DeLauter is expected to be out for six to eight weeks, which could allow him to return in the last week or two of the regular season. The player was examined on Tuesday by Dr. Thomas Graham, a wrist and hand specialist at Jefferson Orthopedics in Philadelphia. An MRI and clinical examination confirmed the fracture of the hook of the hamate bone, and surgery was recommended. DeLauter, ranked as the number 2 prospect for the Guardians, hasn’t played since July 12. In 34 games with the Triple-A Columbus team, he was batting .278 with 8 doubles, 5 home runs, and 21 RBIs. The player, selected in the first round of the 2022 draft, managed to get on base in the 34 games he played with Columbus, which generated speculation about when he could be called up to the main team. DeLauter has had a hard time staying on the field. Last year, he was on the injured list three times and missed the first few months of this season due to a sports hernia injury suffered in spring training.
