Pete Crow-Armstrong Signs Million-Dollar Extension with the Cubs
Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has agreed to a six-year, $115 million contract extension, according to sources familiar with the negotiation. The agreement, which begins in 2027, is unusual for not including a club option, which will allow Crow-Armstrong to become a free agent before he turns 31. Crow-Armstrong, who turned 24 on Wednesday, established himself as the best defensive center fielder in baseball last season, also demonstrating good offensive performance in his first full season in the Major Leagues. This performance prompted the Cubs to seek an extension during the winter. On Monday, it was reported that the sides were finalizing a long-term deal.Crow-Armstrong had an outstanding performance in the first half of last season, with a .265/.302/.544 average, 25 home runs and 27 stolen bases, earning him a spot on the National League All-Star team. Although his performance declined in the second half, the Cubs believe his talent is MVP level and that the second half was more of an exception than the rule.“We want young and talented players to stay in our franchise for a long time. I think that’s the goal of every franchise.”
Craig Counsell, Cubs Manager
