Pete Crow-Armstrong Gets a Refreshment Break
Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong will enjoy his second consecutive day off this Wednesday. Manager Craig Counsell has decided to give him a “physical and mental” break due to his struggles in the second half of the season. Crow-Armstrong, 23, was not in the starting lineup against the Braves on Wednesday, after coming off the bench to play defense at the end of Tuesday’s game. The Cubs will have a day off on Thursday, which will give Crow-Armstrong three full days between his appearances.Since the All-Star break, Crow-Armstrong is batting .212 with an OPS of .624. His performance has been even more complicated in the last month, registering .163 with only five extra-base hits and five walks against 29 strikeouts since August 1st.We are giving him a real break. So that he has a physical and mental respite, and then, entering the last three and a half weeks of the season, hopefully, a little fresher.

The last six games of the Cubs’ nine-game road trip out west were played in spacious ballparks in San Francisco and Denver, where Crow-Armstrong covered a lot of ground in the outfield. He went 6-35 during the trip before resting on Tuesday and Wednesday.I looked at this at the beginning of the recent road trip, wondering where we could give Pete a break. As the road trip continued, it became apparent that we should take this opportunity to give him a break.

Willi Castro, a utility player, will start in center instead of Crow-Armstrong against the Braves on Wednesday, while regular designated hitter Seiya Suzuki will play in right field instead of Kyle Tucker, who left Tuesday’s game due to a left calf issue. Counsell said they will have an update on Tucker’s status before Friday’s game against the Washington Nationals. Carlos Santana, newly acquired switch-hitter, will make his first start with the Cubs, filling the designated hitter spot for Suzuki.Let’s hope it’s a reset for Pete.
