Pete Crow-Armstrong Declines This Year’s Home Run Derby

Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has expressed his lack of interest in participating in this year’s Home Run Derby. Although he doesn’t completely rule out the idea for the future, his main focus is on the 2025 season.

“No, that’s not for me,” said Crow-Armstrong, before connecting an impressive 452-foot home run against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. “That’s a different kind of power. I don’t know if I can handle the time the timer lasts there. That would be a challenge.”

Crow-Armstrong, 23, hit his 19th home run of the season in the eighth inning of the Cubs’ 5-3 victory over the Brewers. This home run came moments after a spectacular catch in center field, which preserved a one-run lead before he extended it himself. His home run, connected on the first pitch from Brewers reliever Rob Zastryzny, hit the scoreboard in right field, with an exit velocity of 111.5 mph. MVP chants echoed through the stadium.

“Those are moments I really have to savor,” Crow-Armstrong said after the game. “It’s important to appreciate them. I tried to soak it all in.”

According to data, Crow-Armstrong’s 19 home runs are the most for a Cubs outfielder in the first 75 games of a season since Sammy Sosa (26) in 2002. Despite this power surge, Crow-Armstrong reiterated that he will not be competing in the Home Run Derby.

“Maybe when I’m older,” Crow-Armstrong said with a smile.
