Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras intends to keep playing despite a fractured finger, an injury the team believes he first suffered last season.

An X-ray revealed the fracture in the middle finger of the left hand, the hand with which he catches, which caused him so much pain that the team requested the exploration.

According to MLB.com, Contreras plans to play with a splint on his finger both when catching and batting.

Following his second All-Star season, Contreras is batting .242 with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 35 games. Last year he batted .281 and .289 in 2023. The pain is greater when he bats, according to MLB.com.

Contreras, 27, was not in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Houston Astros, resting after catching in the previous two games of the series.
