Aaron Civale Gets His Wish: Traded to the White Sox
Aaron Civale finally gets what he wanted. After resisting the Milwaukee Brewers’ attempt to move him to the bullpen, the pitcher has been traded.
The Brewers will send Civale to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for first baseman Andrew Vaughn.
This move comes two days after the Brewers announced that Civale would move to the bullpen for the first time in his seven-year career. The decision was made to make room in the rotation for Jacob Misiorowski, a promising pitcher.
“We are exploring options to give me the opportunity to do what I do best, which is to go out and pitch,” Civale said.
Civale, who turned 30 on Thursday and is eligible for free agency after the season, was the odd man out when the Brewers opted for a rotation comprised of Misiorowski, Freddy Peralta, Jose Quintana, Quinn Priester, and Chad Patrick.
Civale, with a career record of 40-37 and an ERA of 4.06, said his last regular season relief appearance was in college, at Northeastern.
Civale now goes from a Brewers team that won the last two National League Central titles to a White Sox team that has lost more than 100 games in each of the last two years and is already 21.5 games behind in the American League Central, with a record of 23-46.
Vaughn, 27, was in his fifth season with the White Sox. He was batting .189 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 48 games this season before being sent to Triple-A Charlotte in May in the hope that he would return to his best level.
