Chris Sale Returns to the Atlanta Braves Rotation
The Atlanta Braves have activated left-handed pitcher Chris Sale from the 60-day injured list, the team announced this Saturday.
Sale is expected to be the opener in Saturday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The National League Cy Young Award winner has been out of action since June, due to a fracture in his left rib cage that he suffered while diving to field a ground ball. Sale pitched 4⅔ innings in his most recent and third rehabilitation start in Triple-A last week.
Sale’s return ends a period since the end of July in which all of the Braves’ Opening Day starters have been on the injured list. Atlanta has performed 61-74 and is on track to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
Sale, 36 years old, has a 5-4 record and a 2.52 ERA in 15 starts this season.
