Matt Chapman to the Injured List with a Hand Sprain

San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a sprain in his right hand, following an injury sustained over the weekend against Atlanta.

The designation is retroactive to Monday. The Giants announced that Chapman will be examined by Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles on Friday. The team could provide an update on when he might be ready to return.

Chapman hurt his hand in the eighth inning on Sunday while diving back to first base on a pickoff attempt.

Chapman, 32, is batting .243 with 12 home runs and 30 RBIs in 65 games during his second season with the Giants. The team signed him in September to a six-year, $151 million contract, which extends through 2030.

On Saturday, he connected on a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning in the 3-2 victory over the Braves.

San Francisco called up infielder Christian Koss from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, before the start of the series against Colorado.

The Giants were on a five-game winning streak, each by a run, and have played seven straight one-run games overall.
