Dylan Cease Hit by Pitch in the Head, Remains in the Game

In a moment of tension during Monday night’s game, San Diego Padres right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease was hit in the back of the head by a hit from Francisco Lindor, player for the New York Mets. Despite the incident, Cease continued in the game. The event occurred in the third inning, with one out. The ball, after the impact, veered into foul territory, resulting in a double. Cease, visibly affected, sat on the mound, holding his head with his right hand. He received immediate attention from the medical staff, including manager Mike Shildt and pitching coach Ruben Niebla. After throwing some warm-up pitches, Cease decided to stay in the game. Subsequently, Cease managed to strike out Juan Soto, which led to the ejection of the Mets’ manager, Carlos Mendoza, who protested the umpire’s decision. Following that, Cease also struck out Pete Alonso.

Whether it’s Soto or any other player on our team, I have to defend them.

At that moment, the Mets were leading the score 1-0. However, the Padres achieved a spectacular comeback, securing a victory with a single by Elías Díaz in the ninth inning, with a final score of 7-6. This victory ended New York’s seven-game winning streak.
