Dylan Cease Hit in the Head by a Batted Ball, Remains in the Game
In a moment that generated concern on the field, San Diego Padres right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease was hit in the back of the head by a batted ball from New York Mets player Francisco Lindor during Monday night’s game.
The incident occurred in the third inning, with one out. The ball, a product of the hit, bounced towards foul territory, resulting in a double. Cease, after the impact, remained on the pitcher’s mound, touching his head with his right hand.
The pitcher was evaluated by the coaches, manager Mike Shildt, and pitching coach Ruben Niebla. After throwing some warm-up pitches, Cease continued in the game.
Subsequently, Cease managed to strike out Juan Soto and Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was ejected from the game for arguing the decision. Next, Cease also struck out Pete Alonso.
At the time of the incident, the Mets were leading the score 1-0.
