DENVER – Kris Bryant will be limited to light walking for the next week as he recovers from a procedure to address his lingering back issue.
The Colorado Rockies’ designated hitter is hoping this will finally alleviate the pain. Bryant returned to town after traveling to Los Angeles to undergo an ablation, a procedure designed to interrupt pain signals being sent from his back to his brain. He explained that the process took approximately 45 minutes.
I feel like I’ve been stabbed in the back right now. It’s not ideal, but I’m in good spirits.

Once he is cleared for more than light activity, Bryant will return to the gym to build strength. There is still no timetable for his return to baseball activities.
You just have to let nature take its course.

Bryant is currently on the injured list for a degenerative lumbar disc disease, which involves the deterioration of the spinal discs that act as shock absorbers between the vertebrae. This is his ninth stint on the injured list since 2022 due to a series of health problems.
His back has reached the point where cortisone injections no longer work. That’s why he underwent the ablation procedure. Anything to avoid back surgery.
I don’t want to get to that point. I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I’m just trying to check boxes as they come. We tried all the other conservative treatments, or more traditional approaches with cortisone shots. They just didn’t work for me. So this was another step along the way.
Kris Bryant
I’m willing to try anything. It’s affected me, for sure. It just sucks.

Bryant, 33, is batting .154 this season with no home runs, one RBI, and 13 strikeouts in 11 games.
Bryant has played 170 games with Colorado since he signed a seven-year, $182 million contract before the 2022 season. He has suffered a series of injuries, including plantar fasciitis, a bone bruise in his foot, heel problems, a fractured finger, a back strain, a bruised lower rib, and back issues.
Right now I feel like I’m in a good place. It just wears on you. It’s not an easy thing for me to handle, but I’m doing the best I can with a pretty bad situation.
Kris Bryant
No baseball goal has been set yet.
It really is one day at a time. Just keep doing everything in my power, and in the training staff’s power, to find a way to navigate this.
