Pat Murphy Secures His Future with the Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have extended the contract of Pat Murphy, recognized as the National League Manager of the Year for two consecutive seasons, making him one of the highest-paid strategists in MLB.

The new agreement, which adds two years to the existing contract and includes a club option for 2029, guarantees an additional 8.95 million dollars.

Murphy, 68, led Milwaukee to a standout season in 2023, achieving a 97-65 record, the best in the league and setting a new franchise wins record. The Brewers were in second place in the National League Central in early July, before surpassing the Chicago Cubs with an impressive 29-4 run, which included a 14-game winning streak, another organization record.

Milwaukee eliminated Chicago in a memorable divisional series before being swept by the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. The five-game victory over the rival Cubs was the Brewers’ first postseason series win since they swept Colorado in the 2018 National League Division Series.

Before Murphy, only Bobby Cox, with the Atlanta Braves in 2004 and 2005, had won the National League Manager of the Year award in consecutive years.

Murphy served as Milwaukee’s bench coach for eight seasons before being promoted following Craig Counsell’s departure to the Cubs in November 2023. In his first season at the helm, the Brewers also won the National League Central Division, finishing with a 93-69 record.

Murphy had an extensive career as a coach at the university level before becoming a special assistant to the San Diego Padres for the 2010 season. In 2015, he had a record of 42-54 as interim manager of the Padres.

The information about Murphy’s new contract was initially reported.
