Quinn Priester will miss the start of the season due to health issues

The Milwaukee Brewers pitcher, Quinn Priester, will not be available to play for at least the first month of the season. The player is in the process of recovery due to a nerve problem that has been affecting his performance. Priester has been dealing with a wrist issue for much of the preseason. Brewers manager Pat Murphy informed the media that Priester’s diagnosis indicates the injury is related, at least in part, to thoracic outlet syndrome. The right-handed pitcher spoke with MLB.com and other media on Friday about the possible timeline for his return.

I think I could be back at the end of April or May, but I’m optimistic, as a player I want to return as soon as possible. I trust the schedule to make sure we do things right and not have problems by rushing.

Priester, 25 years old, expressed his relief at finally knowing exactly what was happening to him.

I feel like we’ve been avoiding some of these issues. Having a clear path forward I think is very good.

Priester had a standout season last year after the Brewers acquired him in early April. He had a 13-3 record with a 3.32 ERA in 29 appearances, including 24 starts. Priester won 12 consecutive decisions at one point, and the Brewers won 19 consecutive games (16 starts and three appearances after a starter) in which he pitched. Now you will have to wait a while before playing again.

It’s a long season. It’s a marathon. So, come back as quickly as possible, but in the smartest way possible.
