Brewery Domain: The Brewers Crush Paul Skenes and Secure Their Winning Streak

MILWAUKEE – Star pitcher Paul Skenes, recognized for his dominance in baseball this season, couldn’t stop the momentum of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Pittsburgh Pirates’ ace became the latest victim of the Brewers, who on Tuesday night hit five home runs, culminating in a resounding 14-0 victory. This win extended the Brewers’ winning streak to 11 games.

They’re on right now. I didn’t have my best performance today, and they took advantage of it.

The Brewers’ 11-game winning streak is the second-longest of the season and the second in franchise history. They join Cleveland in 1954 and the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015 as the only teams since World War II with multiple streaks of at least 11 games in a season. In addition, they are the first National League team to achieve this feat since the 1935 Chicago Cubs. Despite the Brewers’ success, home runs haven’t been the primary factor for much of the season. General Manager Matt Arnold opted to bolster the team’s depth rather than make major changes at the trade deadline, trusting that the current players would carry the offensive load. The strategy has paid off, as Milwaukee leads MLB with 23 home runs since the beginning of August, including six by Brice Turang and three by Andrew Vaughn, who has driven in 32 runs since joining the team on July 7. Since the beginning of August, Milwaukee has demonstrated impressive offensive power, leading the league with a slugging percentage of .567, an on-base percentage of .393, and an OPS of .960. In addition, their batting average of .323 is tied with Toronto for first place. The effectiveness of the Brewers’ pitchers during this streak has been 3.09. The starting rotation has been key, allowing only 22 earned runs. Freddy Peralta pitched six scoreless innings, keeping the streak alive.

It’s been fun. Everyone’s clicking, the offense seems to be going, and our pitching has done a great job. Obviously, we’ve been scoring a lot of runs, but they’ve put up a lot of zeros and ones on the scoreboard in every game, and that’s a credit to them.

A win on Wednesday against the Pirates would give the Brewers their fourth consecutive series sweep and extend their streak to 12 games, just one shy of the franchise record set at the start of the 1987 season. If they win, a promotion from the George Webb restaurant chain would be activated, which has promised to give away free burgers if the Brewers win 12 games in a row.
