Joey Wentz Leaves Game Due to Injury

Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher Joey Wentz had to leave Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays due to a right leg injury.

The situation occurred after an unfortunate movement while covering first base.

According to reports, Wentz was carted off the field, but managed to walk to the clubhouse unassisted.

Preliminary tests suggest the injury is not serious.

Wentz, 28, had a season with a 5-7 record and a 5.60 ERA playing for three different teams last year. He was expected to compete for a spot in the Braves’ rotation, who have already suffered significant losses.

Wentz entered the game on Sunday in the fifth inning, with two outs and a runner on third base. During a bunt by Taylor Walls, Wentz went to cover first base, stepping incorrectly and colliding with Walls.

The team will conduct a new evaluation of Wentz on Monday.

The Rays won the exhibition game with a score of 9-8, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
