Brady Anderson Joins the Angels as New Hitting Coach
The Los Angeles Angels have confirmed the addition of former MLB All-Star Brady Anderson as their new batting coach. This move marks Anderson’s start in his first official coaching role.
Anderson, known for his long career with the Baltimore Orioles, where he played until 2002, will assume this new role alongside John Mabry, who has been hired as his assistant.
Anderson, 61, and Mabry, 55, join the team of the new manager, Kurt Suzuki, who signed a one-year contract. The Angels have also hired John Gibbons as bench coach, Mike Maddux as pitching coach, Adam Eaton as first base coach, Keith Johnson as third base coach, Max Stassi as catching coach, and Andy Schatzley as infield coach.
During his time as a player, Anderson was an outfielder for the Orioles from 1988 to 2001. His best season was in 1996, when he batted .297 with 110 RBIs and 50 home runs, a franchise record at the time.
After his retirement, Anderson joined the Orioles’ board, serving as vice president of baseball operations from 2013 to 2018.
Mabry, for his part, had a 14-year career in the Major Leagues, from 1994 to 2007, and has been part of the coaching staff of several teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins and, more recently, the Orioles, where he was a senior advisor last season.
