Brady Anderson, former MLB All-Star, joins the [Los Angeles Angels](/mlb/team/_/name/laa/los-angeles-angels) as their new hitting coach, the team confirmed on Friday.
Anderson, an emblematic figure of the [Baltimore Orioles](/mlb/team/_/name/bal/baltimore-orioles), the team with which he played until 2002 and then played a prominent role in the management, will assume his first official position as a coach. He will work alongside John Mabry, a more experienced batting coach, who has been hired as his assistant.
Anderson, 61, and Mabry, 55, join the coaching staff of the new manager, [Kurt Suzuki](https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/28802/kurt-suzuki), who signed a one-year contract this offseason. The Angels have also brought in John Gibbons as bench coach, Mike Maddux as pitching coach, Adam Eaton as first base coach, Keith Johnson as third base coach, Max Stassi as catching coach, and Andy Schatzley as infield coach.
Anderson, who served as a gardener with the Orioles from 1988 to 2001, had his best season in 1996, batting .297 with 110 RBIs and 50 home runs, a franchise record at the time, a figure he did not reach again in his last five seasons with the Orioles.
About 10 years after his retirement, he joined the Orioles’ board of directors, being one of the main people responsible for decision-making, holding the position of vice president of baseball operations from 2013 to 2018.
However, Anderson’s role diminished after the hiring of Mike Elias as general manager in November 2018, and he left the organization at the end of the following season. Anderson has not been affiliated with a Major League team since then.
Mabry played in the majors for 14 years, from 1994 to 2007, and has been part of the coaching staff of four other organizations, including the [St. Louis Cardinals](/mlb/team/_/name/stl/st-louis-cardinals), [Kansas City Royals](/mlb/team/_/name/kc/kansas-city-royals), [Miami Marlins](/mlb/team/_/name/mia/miami-marlins) and, most recently, the Orioles, with whom he served as a senior advisor last season.
