On a night filled with emotions, Bruce Bochy, the experienced manager of the Texas Rangers, reached a significant milestone in his career. With his team’s 1-0 victory over the Houston Astros, Bochy added his 2,195th win as a manager, surpassing Sparky Anderson and securing sixth place on the all-time MLB wins list.
A Legacy of Success
Bochy, who turned 70 last month, is in his 28th season as a manager. His impressive regular season record is 2,195 wins and 2,206 losses, accumulated during his stints with the Rangers, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants.
Bochy’s career is adorned with four World Series titles. He won three of them with the Giants and the most recent one with the Rangers, in his return to the dugout after a three-season retirement.
The Giants of Management
The five managers who surpass Bochy on the wins list, along with Sparky Anderson, are members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Next on the list is Joe Torre, with 2,326 wins. Connie Mack leads the list with 3,731 wins, followed by Tony La Russa, John McGraw, and Bobby Cox.
Sparky Anderson, with a record of 2,194-1,834, also has three World Series titles, two with Cincinnati and one with Detroit.
In his third season with the Rangers, Bochy has a record of 192-177. Previously, he recorded 951-975 with the Padres and 1,052-1,054 with the Giants, where he won three World Series in a five-season span.
