Double blow for the Blue Jays: Clase and Straw, injured

Toronto, Canada – The Toronto Blue Jays suffered a tough setback this Tuesday night, losing two of their center fielders, Jonatan Clase and Myles Straw, due to injuries in a span of two innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Misfortune first struck Jonatan Clase, who started the game in center field. Clase had to leave the game after being hit on the right knee by a pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Class reliever was Myles Straw, who also suffered an injury. Straw, while trying to catch a double in the top of the fifth inning, crashed into the wall and twisted his right ankle, forcing him to leave the game. Clase felt intense pain after being hit by a 93 mph fastball from Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Brandon Pfaadt. Although Clase was able to run the bases, the inning ended when Bo Bichette was put out. The Blue Jays reported that Clase suffered a contusion on his right knee. In the following entry, Straw crashed into the wall while trying to catch Josh Naylor’s double. Naylor, visibly worried, put his hands on his head and approached Straw, his former teammate in Cleveland, who was lying on the field. Straw finally stood up and left the field through a garden gate, being replaced by rookie Alan Roden.
