José Berríos, of the Blue Jays, Out with Elbow Fracture

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher José Berríos will not be ready for the start of the season due to a stress fracture in his right elbow. Berríos met with Dr. Keith Meister to evaluate what was initially described as inflammation in his elbow. Blue Jays manager John Schneider informed the media about Berríos’ diagnosis on Wednesday.

“I think he’ll take a couple of days off from throwing and then get back at it,” Schneider said. “Hopefully it’s not too long. As long as he feels good, [he can] get back on the mound pretty soon, but he won’t be ready to start the season.”

Berrios, 31, had a season with a 9-5 record and a 4.17 ERA in 31 appearances for the Blue Jays last year. He ended the season on the injured list and did not pitch in the postseason during the Blue Jays’ World Series run.
