SAN DIEGO – San Diego Padres rookie right-handed pitcher Ryan Bergert exited Tuesday night’s game in the fourth inning after being struck on his throwing elbow by a 103 mph line drive off the bat of Washington’s Jacob Young.

Bergert doubled over for a minute with his arm glued to his body, then got up and grabbed the ball, which fell near the rubber. He threw to first, but Young reached the base safely with an infield single.

After being reviewed by a coach, Bergert left the game and was replaced by Adrian Morejon.

Bergert was making his fifth start in the Major Leagues. He debuted in the MLB on April 26 as a reliever. He came into the game with a 1-0 record and an ERA of 1.88.

Finally, Young scored thanks to a grounder by James Wood, giving the Nationals a 3-0 lead.
