KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chicago White Sox have placed outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the 10-day injured list due to a left calf strain.

Benintendi, 30, suffered the injury during Sunday’s victory against Houston. So far this season, he is batting .224 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in 24 games.

Benintendi had already been out of action for much of spring training due to a fracture in his right hand, the result of being hit by a pitch on February 27. Although he managed to recover for Opening Day, he was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 9 due to a left adductor strain.

The player signed a five-year, $75 million contract with Chicago before the 2023 season.

In addition, the last-place White Sox promoted infielder Nick Maton from Triple-A Charlotte before their game in Kansas City.

Maton, 28, was on the White Sox’ opening day roster and hit .173 (9 for 52) in 23 games before being assigned on April 26. He was outrighted and sent to Charlotte.
