Ben Lively Leaves Game with Forearm Discomfort

Cleveland Guardians pitcher Ben Lively had to leave Monday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers due to right forearm inflammation.

The right-hander went to the mound for the fourth inning, threw some warm-up pitches, and felt discomfort. After talking with the coaches and manager Stephen Vogt, Lively left the game.

“He had a bit of trouble last year and then, in his last start in Washington (on May 6), he also had discomfort. That’s why we took him out early. We just wanted to be sure and get him out of there,” Vogt commented.

Jakob Junis, Kolby Allard, Cade Smith, and Hunter Gaddis took care of the rest of the game, achieving the Guardians’ fifth shutout of the season.

Lively allowed zero runs and one hit, with two walks and one strikeout.

So far this season, Lively has a 2-2 record with an ERA of 3.22 in 10 starts. In his three May outings, he has allowed only one run in 14 innings.

Lively is expected to undergo further testing on Tuesday.
