WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Athletics made a significant decision this Monday, designating second baseman Luis Urías for assignment.Simultaneously, the team called up Zack Gelof from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the same position.Gelof, who began the season on the injured list after right-hand surgery on March 24, is preparing for his second stint with the team.His previous return to the A’s was on July 4, participating in eight games before being sent to Las Vegas. There, Gelof recorded a batting average of .259, with 11 home runs and 28 RBIs.Urías, who signed a one-year contract for $1.1 million with the team in February, participated in 83 games as a second baseman and five as a third baseman.In 96 games with the Athletics, the player batted .230, with eight home runs and 25 RBIs.
