Taylor Trammell Escapes Sanction for Two-Toned Bat
Houston Astros outfielder Taylor Trammell will not face any sanctions from Major League Baseball (MLB) after umpires confiscated his two-toned bat. The incident occurred after New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone requested a bat review following a double hit by Trammell. Trammell explained that he has already spoken with MLB officials and understood the explanation provided. The main reason for the confiscation was discoloration on the dark part of the bat, which, although it did not affect performance, violated regulations.MLB rules state that a two-tone bat must be divided into two sections, each of a solid color. The discoloration on Trammell’s bat made it non-compliant with these regulations. During the delay in the ninth inning of Thursday’s game, both managers spoke with the home plate umpire, Adrian Johnson, who then communicated with the replay office in New York before handing the bat to an official. Boone stated that he requested the bat review because he was informed about something that didn’t seem right. Boone admitted that the situation was difficult, as he didn’t believe Trammell was doing anything wrong, but felt it was his duty to check for his team. Trammell, who played five games for the Yankees last season before joining Houston in November, commented that he wasn’t sure if he would get the bat back, but he would like to have it.We see this often with some players who may have a wristband or something like that and they just have to take it off. So it’s nothing crazy, it didn’t impact the ball or anything like that.

When questioned about his bats for the series against the Rangers, Trammell showed the bat he had used in batting practice, making sure it had no damage. Trammell concluded that, regardless of the incident, he respects both organizations and is satisfied with the outcome.I probably just want to have it so I can tell my grandkids a story about it. It’s a cool little fun story. I don’t know if they’ll give it back. They put a sticker on it, so it’s authenticated at least… So someone will have it.
