The Houston Astros have begun to make moves in the offseason market, securing the services of right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson with a one-year contract valued at $1.35 million.Pearson, 29, split most of last season between the Cubs organization, appearing in 11 major league games. In those games, he allowed 15 runs in 14⅔ innings.He was released in September after spending most of the year in Triple-A, where he had an ERA of 2.22 in 38 appearances.Selected in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Blue Jays, he was traded to the Cubs in July 2024, participating in 19 games in the second half of the season. His performance earned him a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2025, but he was ultimately sent back to the minor leagues.Recognized for his powerful arm, Pearson has yet to fully establish his role in the majors.In his career, Pearson has a 9-6 record with an ERA of 5.17 in 123 games, including six as a starter.
