The Houston Astros have begun to make moves in the offseason market, securing the services of right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson with a one-year contract valued at $1.35 million.
Pearson, 29, spent a large part of the previous season in the Cubs organization, participating in 11 major league games. In those games, he allowed 15 runs in 14 1/3 innings.
After spending most of the year in Triple-A, where he recorded an ERA of 2.22 in 38 games, he was released in September.
Selected in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Blue Jays, Pearson was traded to the Cubs in July 2024, participating in 19 games in the second half of the season.
Despite a performance that earned him a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2025, he was ultimately sent back to the minor leagues.
Recognized for his powerful arm, Pearson has yet to consolidate his position in the majors.
In his career, Pearson has a 9-6 record with an ERA of 5.17 in 123 games, including six as a starter.
