The Houston Astros got ahead of the offseason by securing the signing of right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson to a one-year contract for $1.35 million.
Pearson, 29, spent most of last season in the Cubs organization, participating in 11 major league games. In those games, he allowed 15 runs in 14 1/3 innings.
It was released in September after spending most of the year in Triple-A, where he participated in 38 games, recording an ERA of 2.22.
The player, selected in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Blue Jays, was traded to the Cubs in July 2024. In the second half of the season, he participated in 19 games.
His performance earned him a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2025, although he was eventually sent back to the minor leagues. Pearson, known for his powerful arm, has yet to fully establish his role in the majors.
In his career, Pearson has a 9-6 record with an ERA of 5.17 in 123 games, including six as a starter.
