The Houston Astros have begun to make moves in the offseason, securing the services of right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson with a one-year contract valued at $1.35 million, according to sources close to the team.

Pearson, 29, spent most of the previous season in the Cubs organization, participating in 11 major league games. In those games, he allowed 15 runs in 14⅔ innings.

After spending most of the year in Triple-A, where he recorded an ERA of 2.22 in 38 games, he was released in September. Pearson, who was selected in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Blue Jays, was traded to the Cubs in July 2024.

In the second half of the season, he participated in 19 games. His performance earned him a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2025, although he was eventually sent back to the minor leagues.

Despite his well-known strong arm, Pearson still hasn’t fully managed to consolidate his role in the majors.

In his career, Pearson has a 9-6 record with an ERA of 5.17 in 123 games, including six as a starter.
