Astros Secure Nate Pearson: Pitcher Signs for One Year

The Houston Astros got ahead of the offseason by securing right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson with a one-year contract for $1.35 million, according to sources close to the team.

Pearson, 29, played most of last season in the Cubs organization, participating in 11 major league games. In those games, he allowed 15 runs in 14⅔ innings.

It was released in September after spending most of the year in Triple-A, where he participated in 38 games, recording an ERA of 2.22.

The player, selected in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Blue Jays, was transferred to the Cubs in July 2024, participating in 19 games in the second half of the season. His performance earned him a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2025, but he was ultimately sent back to the minor leagues.

Known for his powerful arm, Pearson has yet to fully establish his role in the majors.

In his career, Pearson has a 9-6 record with an ERA of 5.17 in 123 games, including six as a starter.
