Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña was placed on the 10-day injured list this Monday due to a rib fracture.
The team announced the news after imaging tests revealed a “small fracture in one of the ribs on the left side” of Peña. A corresponding move on the players list is expected for Tuesday.El campocorto de los Astros, Jeremy Peña, ha sido colocado en la lista de lesionados por 10 días con una fractura de costilla, retroactiva al 28 de junio, después de ser golpeado por un lanzamiento contra los Cachorros.Peña has been batting .322 with 11 home runs, 40 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases, with an OPS of .867 and 48 runs scored. He ranks second in MLB in WAR (5.2), according to STATS.
The injured list stint is retroactive to June 28, the day after Peña was hit by a pitch in a game against the Chicago Cubs. He was replaced in the fifth inning of that 7-4 victory on Friday by Mauricio Dubon, who came in as a pinch hitter and remained in the game at shortstop.
Initial X-rays on Friday night did not detect a fracture, according to the Astros, but additional tests that included an MRI and a CT scan revealed the fracture.
Peña plans to travel with the team on the upcoming six-game trip, which begins Tuesday in Denver against the Colorado Rockies.
