Astros’ Josh Hader to the Injured List
Houston Astros All-Star closer Josh Hader was placed on the 15-day injured list this Tuesday due to a left shoulder strain. The decision, retroactive to Monday, comes after the left-handed pitcher reported shoulder discomfort before Monday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.Espada added that the Astros still don’t know the severity of the injury and should know more after further tests. The manager also indicated that he will not name a closer to replace Hader while he is out, but will use his relievers based on matchups.“It’s a gut punch,” manager Joe Espada said. “But… he’s seeing the doctors right now. They’re doing more tests and hopefully this isn’t something long-term.”

Hader, who is in his second season in Houston, has a 6-2 record with a 2.05 ERA and is tied for third in the Major Leagues with 28 saves in 48 appearances this season. To fill their spot on the roster, the Astros, leaders of the American League West Division, reinstated right-handed pitcher Shawn Dubin from the 15-day injured list. They also designated right-handed pitcher Héctor Neris for assignment and called up left-handed pitcher Colton Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land.“I feel good with all those guys,” Espada affirmed.
