Jake Meyers Returns to Action with the Houston Astros

The Houston Astros announced the return of Jake Meyers from the injured list prior to Saturday’s game against Texas. The center fielder was out of action for almost two months due to a calf injury. Meyers hadn’t played since July 9, when a strain in his right calf forced him to leave Houston’s game against Cleveland before the game began. The 29-year-old player has a batting average of .308, with three home runs and 21 RBIs so far this season. Adding Jake, his defense and his offensive production that he has shown this year, stretches our lineup a little more. We are excited to have him back. Meyers, who has often batted in the seventh spot in the batting order this season, was ninth in Espada’s lineup on Saturday. Sword indicated that Meyers’ status is “day-to-day”.

We have to see how he reacts to the workload.

Joe Espada, Astros Manager
The Astros (77-65) have had a 22-28 record since Meyers was sidelined. Houston also called up right-handed pitcher Logan VanWey from Triple-A Sugar Land and optioned left-handed pitcher Colton Gordon and outfielder Jacob Melton to Sugar Land.
