A’s: Jacob Wilson to the injured list with a fractured arm

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Athletics have placed All-Star shortstop Jacob Wilson on the 10-day injured list due to a fracture in his left forearm.

Wilson, 23 years old, was hit on the left hand by a pitch in the first inning of the 10-1 victory over Atlanta on July 8. The rookie has a batting average of .105 (4 of 38) in his last 10 games.

Wilson, the number 6 pick in the 2023 amateur draft, hasn’t played since he went 1-for-3 in the 15-3 victory in Houston on Friday. His placement on the injured list was made retroactive to Saturday.

The Athletics also called up infielder Darell Hernaiz from Triple-A Las Vegas before their game against Seattle. Hernaiz, 23, batted .305 with four home runs and 50 RBIs in 96 games with Las Vegas this season.

Jacob Wilson, son of former Major League infielder Jack Wilson, and teammate Nick Kurtz are two of the leading contenders for the American League Rookie of the Year award. Jacob Wilson is batting .312 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs in 94 games.
