Gabriel Arias Suffers Injury and Leaves the Game in a Cart

Cleveland Guardians shortstop Gabriel Arias had to leave the field on a cart after suffering a left lower leg injury during the third inning of Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Arias, while trying to field a ground ball connected by Masyn Winn with one out, slid on the grass with his left shoe, twisting his ankle unnaturally. The ball ended up in left field as a single. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound player immediately grabbed his leg and remained on the field for several minutes. A brace was placed on it before he was loaded onto the medical cart that took him off the field. The Guardians will provide details about his injury once Arias undergoes an examination. Arias is batting .231 with six home runs and 31 RBIs in 77 games. This is the 25-year-old Venezuelan’s first full season as a starter.
