Angels’ Taylor Ward Exits Field After Shocking Collision With Wall

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward was carted off the field after a nasty collision with the left field wall during the eighth inning of the game against the Houston Astros. Ward dove to try to catch a double connected by Ramón Urías, but crashed into the wall, falling to the ground. Although he got up quickly, he immediately asked for assistance. He received a towel to cover his face.

The Angels’ staff quickly came to assist him. Ward, bleeding and apparently with a wound above his right eye, was taken off on a stretcher, resting his head on the shoulder of a team member. Ward was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where, according to interim manager Ray Montgomery, he would receive stitches to close the wound and be evaluated.

“Obviously, he hit the wall hard,” Montgomery commented. “He has a cut above his eye.”

Montgomery also indicated that he did not know if Ward would be evaluated for a possible concussion. Jo Adell, Ward’s teammate, expressed that the team was affected by the injury and criticized the presence of a metal wall on the field.

“There should be a ban on having a metal marker in the baseball field,” Adell said. “It’s ridiculous that a player has to worry about a metal fence when trying to make a play.”

Christian Moore entered the game to cover second base after Ward left, while Luis Rengifo moved from second base to left field.
